Planning wine travel in Portugal can be daunting. There is limited information online, and it's not as simple as booking a reservation. Many of the best, smaller wineries still operate using email, phone or via "those they know" to make reservations. Portugal is also not a place where you can "drop-in" for winery visits.

Don't mistake this for a lack in quality; the wineries we work with recently won Winemakers of the Year, Best Wine in Portugal and also World's Best Sommeliers' Selection -to name a few. They do what they do best: making wine and creating exceptional, personal experiences for visitors, but they may lack slightly in the promotion & technology departments.

This is where The Wine Compass comes into play. The founder has taken the time to immerse herself in the Portugal wine scene over the course of several years and has compiled a list of world class partners for wine lovers like you. She has a background in both winemaking & event planning, so rest assured, you're in good hands with an experienced and professional individual. Her goal: to share her love of wine in Portugal with curious travelers like you, and to make sure memories are created to last a lifetime.

If you strongly wish to visit other areas of Portugal, we can use our network to prepare an itinerary for you. Keep in mind, a more advance notice is required as the preparation will take longer.

How Does it Work?

1. We start with a brief questionnaire, or if you prefer, a 15 -30 minute phone call (via Whatsapp-free international calls with wifi).

2. You receive your itinerary and if you would like to make changes, one free revision is included after your review.

3. Communication is handled per your preference. Email is easiest and fastest due to the time difference, but calls can be arranged for clarity.

4. Additional support once in Portugal is available if you run into any kinks.

5. Enjoy your thoughtfully planned trip without any work!

Timing & Availability

For the best possible experience, please contact us at least 1 week before your trip for day plans, 1 month or more during high season (late spring through early fall) is advisable for multi-day or week trip planning. If you have any doubt, just contact us. This is to ensure availability, to coordinate with our partners and to be sure we prepare your plan with the utmost possible quality.

Last minute planning is available for a surcharge.

Pricing

Because every traveler and every plan is unique, pricing varies based on the scope and level of involvement.

• Custom Itinerary Design starts at €115 for a half day (5-6 hours)

• Full Day Itinerary Design is €150 (10-12 hours)

• Multi-Day or Weekly Itinerary Packages are also available at a daily discount

Payment Options Include:

• Pay with a credit or debit card with a secure Stripe link

• Discounted options of €10 off with: bank transfer, PayPay or Venmo

• Deposit of 50% to get started, with the remaining balance due prior to delivering the first proposed itinerary

• Refunds are not available. If in the event you are unsatisfied, we can suggest an alternative spot. However, keep in mind we have taken the time to ensure top quality and have personally vetted all options...and we are picky!
